Scout Pro Bulletin: 25th February 2025

Yesterday, GIANTS Netball announced a new partnership with Auto giant Hyundai. The deal comes off the back of Hyundai’s exit of their Sydney Roosters partnership late last year.

Scout Pro headlines:

  • Last year Hyundai exited a major partnership with the Sydney Roosters, their only NSW-based deal; leaving their presence in the state lacking.

  • A deal with GIANTS Netball helps provide a solution to this challenge and also cements a recent move into Netball, after signing with Melbourne Mavericks in 2024.

  • In hindsight, could this deal have been predicted? Can similar data inform when/where a brand will look to redeploy spend and give proactive Rights Holders the best chance to secure this budget?

A case study on identifying sponsorship opportunities

In November, it was announced that BYD was joining as the new Major Partner for the Sydney Roosters, replacing Hyundai as their official Auto sponsor.

It was the biggest shift in spend in the category in the last 12 months and represented a sizeable chunk of Hyundai’s portfolio. Even more critically, it was their only NSW-based partnership and left Hyundai with a sponsorship challenge - its presence was severely lacking in Australia’s largest car market.

The GIANTS deal has also cemented a recent shift from Hyundai into Netball (and perhaps away from Rugby League), having also announced a deal with the Melbourne Mavericks in 2024.

In hindsight, with a lacking presence in NSW, a shift into Netball and the Swifts already partnered with Suzuki, was a GIANTS deal the obvious next move for Hyundai? With Scout’s Sponsorship intel, similar challenges can be identified and lead to opportunities for proactive Rights Holders acting at the right time.

Mazda is another notable major brand with partnership expiries within the last 12 months (Thunder and Fever). What does their current portfolio look like? Where are their sponsorship challenges? What would best suit for their next partnership? Check this all out and more with the rest of the Auto category on Scout Pro Platform.
